Pablo was a budding artist. At least, that is what his mother told him. Every painting he drew was beautiful. So his mother said. “Oh, what a gorgeous painting!”, Pablo’s mother would say. “May I hang it somewhere in the dining room so that everyone can see how talented you are?”

Of course Pablo said yes.

Soon all the walls in the dining room were covered by Pablo’s paintings.
He painted some more.

“Oh, what a wonderful painting!”, Pablo’s mother said. “Perhaps you should take it across the street to our neighbor, Mr. Monet. I am sure he would like to hang it on his wall.”
8
Pablo took the painting to Mr. Monet.
“Yes, of course,” said Mr. Monet. “I would love to have your painting. But you must not give it to me. You must sell it to me. How much do you think it is worth?”
9
Mr. Monet gave Pablo half a dollar for the painting and hung it in his dining room.
Pablo came home with a very big smile on his face.
10
“Well, was Mr. Monet happy to receive your painting?” she asked.
“Oh yes, said Pablo. “He told me that I should sell my paintings, not give them away.”
11
Pablo’s mother agreed at once.
Oh, and by the way,” said Pablo. Mom, I’ve been doing some thinking. I figured out that you owe me five hundred and twenty seven dollars. And fifty cents.”
