Semester A:
This year was the first time we had to go to teach in school, and for that, we got the first tools that will help us to succeed in this experience in a good and effective way.
So come with me to the wonderful world of pedagogy.
Lesson planning
This is the first and crucial step. So why is it so important, and why do we need it?
The planning of the lesson first of all creates order in the minds of the teachers, so that the teachers know step by step what to do in the lesson and have a complete plan that guides them and streamlines the course of the lesson, so time is not wasted. In addition, when teachers plan their lessons in advance they define the objectives of their lesson and have time to look for and explore different ideas online, in books, or with colleagues, so they can bring their students a meaningful and effective lesson.
In conclusion, a lesson plan builds you into a better teacher in the eyes of you and your students, expands your world of ideas, and maintains the order of the lesson.
Reflection
After the lesson, we were asked to write a reflection on the lesson, this part is very important to me as a teaching student.
By writing the reflection I was able to look at myself as a teacher, to realize what was more successful and what was less, and so I developed my first steps in improving as a teacher, I learned a lot about the class and myself, what things they like and attract their attention and make the lesson more effective, and also what things worked less and which I changed and improved.
L1 in the classroom
This is a controversial topic with lots of different opinions.
I think the use of L1 in the classroom is necessary, but to some extent. At the beginning of the year, I used quite a lot of L1, but over time I developed and taught the students expressions and chunk words in L2, and so from lesson to lessen the use of L1 was reduced.
Here are some important points I learned this year about using L1 and L2 in class:
*It is very important to pay attention when I use too much L1 and stop. (because sometimes you do not notice it).
*Put in as many chunk words as possible in each lesson like ”open your books”, ”sit down”, ”I do not hear him/her”, ”excellent”, ”good work”, etc.
*Use English also on topics unrelated to the class, it will create an English environment and accustoms the students to hear and speak L2.
*Let students make mistakes when they use L2 and not correct them in large quantities so that their confidence will build.
*When students have difficulty speaking L1, explain to them nicely to say even one word of the sentence in L2, then help them and ask them to repeat after you.
