Chapter 20

As we were all waiting for Pa to come back from his hunt, Ma heard Jack barking outside. Then, there were noises, footsteps from people perhaps and I think I even heard wolves… Suddenly, two men came into our house, they had red lines on their faces and feathers on their heads. They were terrifying. Mary, Carie and I were hidden under the bed but I am sure that they could see us. They gave an object to Ma and talked but I did not understand their language. Later, when I asked Ma and Pa who they were, they told me they were Indians and that we should not fear but not trust them too much either.
