Hold me in your arms, baby
Squeeze me oh-so-tight
Show me that you love me too
Won’t you kiss me once, baby?
Just a kiss goodnight, maybe
You and I will fall in love (you and I will fall in love)
A game you just can’t win
If there’s a way
I’ll find it someday
And then this fool will rush in
Whisper in my ear, baby
Words I want to hear
Tell me, tell me that you love me too (tell me that you love me too)
Whisper in my ear, baby
Words I want to hear, baby
Put your head on my shoulder
Paul Anka – Put Your Head On My Shoulder
Paul Albert Anka (born July 30, 1941) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and actor. He became famous with hit songs including “Diana”, “Lonely Boy”, “Put Your Head on My Shoulder”, and “(You’re) Having My Baby”.
He also wrote the lyrics for Frank Sinatra’s signature song “My Way”, which has been recorded by many, including Elvis Presley.
“Put Your Head On My Shoulder” was recorded in August 1958, three weeks before he recorded his no. 1 hit “Lonely Boy”.
“Put Your Head on My Shoulder” became very successful, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 (kept out of the No. 1 spot by Bobby Darin’s recording of “Mack the Knife”).It was his third top five hit of 1959.
Why is this song so popular?
It’s a romantic song that plays in the background
during slow, intimate dances.
The simple words and the addictive rhythm and famous rhyming between baby and maybe and the decline of tone and accompaniment of the singers during these words make the listener want to hear more of it.
Also, the title of the song is very human and sincere and describes an act that we do on a daily basis without attention that escalates love, comfort and passion.
In addition, the song received several covers that were very successful, for example:
Enrique Guzmán (Mexican singer) recorded a Spanish version in the 1960s titled “Tu cabeza en mi hombro”. In Latin America, that cover is even more popular than the original one.
American singer Leif Garrett released a cover of the song in 1978, which eventually reached number number 58 on the Billboard Hot 100.[6]
A mashed up version of Doja Cat’s “Streets” containing the first 12 seconds of “Put Your Head on My Shoulder” became a TikTok challenge.
