Artist Statement

I am inspired by the space between the “real” world and the stories that I am able to create with my artwork. My artwork mixes the everyday world with a world of magic and surrealism. It begins with a photograph. I utilize Photoshop to create a kind of alchemy between the photo, what I want to express, and the tools of the program. I print all of my own work on fine art paper and frequently add pastel or colored pencil.

My recent subject matter explores images of female identity through symbols and magic realism. Despite the fact that we live our daily lives in a state of flux, bombarded by various types of media that can influence our perception of ourselves as women, I choose to incorporate into my images what is magical and instinctual about being a woman.
