It was a cool summer day and we were preparing for the Outagamie County Fair. We were preparing our steers by walking them. Sometimes they are stubborn and sometimes they walk like a dream. My steer’s name is Rocky. Sometimes we walk the steers in the pen and sometimes we walk them around the barn. It is time consuming but it pays off.
It is nerveracking because when you bring your animal to the fair, you don’t know what place you’re going to get. That day the sun was beating down on us. It was as warm as a stove top. When I went to the fair it was exhausting, but I was happy until show time. I got really nervous. You have to give your animal plenty of food and water so they don’t get sick.
The judge gave me the Grand Champion ribbon. It was so amazing it was like winning the lottery. I shook the judges hand-it was like receiving gold. I walked my steer off the ring proudly and put him in his pen. My mom, dad and cousins came to greet me. My mom took a picture of me holding my ribbon.
Sadly the fair ended the next day. I took my steer home that day and put Rocky back in the barn. He still lives today. He is my favorite steer ever. I might be able to take him next year. I took a lot nice pictures with him.
