Eskişehir Wastewater Treatment Plant
Murat Piroğlu, Head of ESKİ General Directorate Wastewater Treatment Department, gave information about Eskişehir Central Wastewater Treatment Plant. The facility, which currently consists of two stages, has the capacity to treat 105,000 m3/day wastewater, serving 650,000 people (EN60). Due to the increase in wastewater flow, the works for the construction of the 3rd stage facility are continuing. Eskişehir Central Wastewater Treatment Plant currently consists of two stages. Both phases have the capacity to treat 105,000 m3/day wastewater, serving 650,000 people (EN60) in total, but 135,000 m3/day wastewater comes to the plant from the city and all is treated.
The 1st stage facility is a carbon removal facility with a wastewater capacity of 44,400 m3/day, commissioned in 1999.
The second stage facility, which became operational in 2010, is an advanced biological (carbon+nitrogen+phosphorus removal) treatment facility with a wastewater capacity of 60.600 m3/day. The second phase was commissioned in 2010 with a European Investment Bank Loan. Since Eskişehir has a flat structure, most lines come to the facility with attraction. The physical treatment units in the 1st stage wastewater treatment plant were canceled and new physical treatment units were built, capable of meeting the peak flow rate of 11,000 m3/hour. Physical treatment units common to both stages; The inlet pumping center consists of coarse and fine screens, sand and oil traps. After the physical treatment units common to both stages, approximately 32% of the wastewater coming to the facility is directed to the 1st stage wastewater treatment plant, and 68% to the 2nd stage wastewater treatment plant. 1st stage WWTP; It consists of preliminary settling tanks, aeration tanks and final settling tanks. If the 2nd stage is WWTP; It consists of preliminary settling tanks, biological treatment tanks and final settling tanks.
The sludge taken from the pre-settlement ponds of both plants is concentrated in the gravity type sludge thickener, and the excess sludge taken from the final settling ponds is taken to the mechanical type thickener by adding polyelectrolyte. The thickened pre- and final (biological) sludges, as well as the oil separated from the sand grease trap and the foams accumulated on the surface of the settling pools, are mixed (2+1) and conveyed to the anaerobic sludge digester, each of which has a volume of 8200 m3.
Biogas Production and Gas Purification
Undesirable materials such as moisture, dust and foam in the biogas produced from the anaerobic sludge digestion process are separated from the biogas by means of condensate traps and gravel filters in the gas treatment building before going to the gas generators. In addition, there is a 3000 m3 gas balloon to balance the gas pressure and ensure stable gas supply to the gas generators. The biogas obtained in digesters contains about 60-65% CH4. The biogas produced in the Wastewater Treatment Plant is converted into electrical energy in two gas generators with a total installed power of 1 MW. Approximately 50% of the total energy consumption of the facility is produced by generators. In addition, the waste heat obtained from the engine jacket water and chimney of gas generators is used for heating the buildings with digesters.
3. Stage Facility Installation Works
Due to approximately 135,000 m3/day wastewater flow to the facilities with a capacity of 105,000 m3/day, work on the construction of the 3rd stage facility has started. On 12.03.2013 to ILBANK “III. A loan application was made for the “Essential Wastewater Treatment Plant Project + Construction Work”. “Eskişehir Merkez Wastewater Treatment Plant Feasibility Report and Project Summary Document” was prepared on May 03, 2016. On September 12, 2017, ESKİ General Directorate issued the “Eskişehir 3rd Stage Wastewater Treatment Plant” Final Project” was commissioned by DOLSAR Mühendislik A.Ş. and approved by ILBANK on 27 June 2018. Negotiations for obtaining a loan from ILBANK for the construction of the facility are continuing. The capacity of the 3rd stage wastewater treatment plant is 85,000 m3/day, and the construction period is It is determined as 18 months and its cost is estimated to be approximately € 15 million. The 3rd stage plant will be integrated with existing facilities and planned as an advanced biological treatment plant.Pre-sedimentation tanks, Carrousel type biological treatment tanks and final settling tanks will be built.
Treatment Sludge Disposal
A contract was signed with a licensed firm for the disposal of the treatment sludge formed in the facilities. Treatment sludge is used by the company as an alternative raw material in building materials. Rural Area Wastewater Treatment Plants Çifteler Wastewater Treatment Plant has a capacity of 2,536 m3/day. It was built by ILBANK and transferred to the OLD General Directorate. It is currently operated by the OLD General Directorate. Sivrihisar Wastewater Treatment Plant has a capacity of 2,130 m3/day. This facility, which was built by ILBANK, was transferred to the OLD General Directorate. It is currently operated by the OLD General Directorate.
In addition, Seyitgazi Wastewater Treatment Plant with 400 m3/day capacity, Kırka Wastewater Treatment Plant with 800 m3/day capacity, Mahmudiye Wastewater Treatment Plant with 1000 m3/day capacity, Beylikova Wastewater Treatment Plant with 600 m3/day capacity and 600 m3/day capacity in the rural area again. Mihalıççık Wastewater Treatment Plant was commissioned. The facilities operate with sequential batch activated sludge process. The construction of the Han Wastewater Treatment Plant with a capacity of 200 m3/day and the Kayı Mahallesi/Mihalıççık Wastewater Treatment Plant with a capacity of 100 m3/day are continuing. In addition, wastewater treatment plants are planned to be built in Mihalgazi-Alpagut, Sivrihisar-Dümrek, Mihalgazi+Sakarı Ilıca and Alpu-Bozan in 2019.
