Willy VS. the Water Cycle

Once long ago, there lived a drop of water named Willy. He was a little water drop, living in his home, the Gulf of Mexico. Willy loved living in the Gulf of Mexico because it was warm, and there were plenty of other water droplets to talk to.

But one chilly day, Willy was floating along, and he decided to go up to the surface of the water so he could warm up. But OH NO!! Willy began to float upland away from his home in the Gulf of Mexico! 

Willy knew that there could only be one reason: evaporation.  Because of the sunlight, Willy had gotten so hot he turned into a type of gas called water vapor. Rising high into the air, Willy wondered: How would he ever get home again?

But look! Willy had found some other water drops. They were in a huge cloud! As Willy sailed along with them, it began to get chilly. Suddenly Willy realized he was hardening. 

“Don’t worry!” another water drop said. “You’ve just condensed onto a piece of dust! Soon we will all fall to the ground.”

Billy was really cold now, and he had formed a beautiful design. But he didn’t mind, because he was going to fall right back into his home!

Woah! Willy was finding it hard to stay in the air. Gravity was pulling him down, making him fall through the sky. Landing on some rocks, Willy knew this wasn’t the Gulf of Mexico. Where was he?

More and more snowflakes fell around Willy. Soon, he began to feel warmer as the Sun’s heat energy came down on the snowy mountain. Very slowly, the snow began to morph into water and WOOSH! Willy was swept down the slope.

He was part of the runoff! The snow had melted, and now the water was speeding down the slope, looking ahead, Willy saw an unfamiliar river.

Zooming into the river, Willy found himself in a huge stream of water. Then suddenly, the river spat him out in the great and friendly Gulf of Mexico!

Willy was back. He had journeyed through the water cycle, and had arrived in time for dinner! As the sun set, Willy wondered when the next time he would go on an adventure would be.
