In my sight, one of the most magical harmonies of the 60’s is in the next song. Sunday Morning was writtern and composed by Margo Guryan, even though the first version of the song has been performed by Spanky and Our Gang in 1967:

Spanky and Our Gang’s version became a hit single, reaching #30 on the Billboard Hot 100, #39 on the easy listening chart in early 1968, and #23 in the Canadian RPM Magazine charts.

Guryan tells in an interview that while she had demos to a few record companies, they offered to record her. Margo’s version has released in 1969:

One YouTube comment on one of the many versions of the song describes my opinion of the song:

“This song is rare in its demand for mess. The more mess, the more effective. Like painting the kitchen walls by throwing everything from the fridge into the open blender at full speed.”

I think the mess is suitable for the lyrics and melody because of the theme of the song – the feeling of home, nostalgia and a mixture of emotions that creates a vortex. Despite the hustle and bustle, the song describes an intimate Sunday morning feeling, especially at the quite and soft beginning of Spanky and Our Gang version. Gurian tells in an interview that while recording the song she was afraid it would be too sexy (Don’t forget, we’re talking about the 60’s).

In Israel the song is well-known thanks to a cover version performed by Shula Chen – “Bo Habayta” (Come home).
Chen’s version became synonymous with Tnuva cottage cheese after being used in a commercial for the product.
