Chapter 1

The Beginning

It was a rainy Sunday afternoon, my brother Logan and I  were playing hide-n-seek with our babysitter when  mom called. I said, “I’ll get it.”  Mom said, “Zoey,is that you?” I answered in response,”Umm, yes who else would it be?”  Mom seemed very excited and in a rush at the same time. ”Put your babysitter on the phone.” I handed it over right away. I wondered what she was saying when it hit me.  We are going on the Titanic! I remembered I almost shouted to my brother, “We’re going on the Titanic!” I sang joyfully! Just then I heard my babysitter say, ”Yes,right away.” She hung up the phone handed it back to me and said, ”Get on your coat and rain boots, but before you do that start packing a week’s-worth of clothes.” she sounded rushed. So we did it right away, then we got in the car we went to where mom worked picked her up and went to the docks for the Titanic! There were millions of people here, I mean for all I know this could be everyone in the whole world!

Chapter 2

On the Titanic

Once we got on the Titanic we gave them our ticket. They said, you have a first class room. I was so happy that means we get our very own steward! We went to our room, it was like a palace bedroom it was amazing! My mom said,”Zoey before you go explore make sure you behave yourself, and to be back at 7:00 for supper.” How did she know I was going to explore? What else does she know? Before she can say anything else I say, ”O.K., I will, bye.” and off I went. O.K., so she said I have to be back at seven and it’s 3:30 then I have 2 hours and 30 minutes. Yay, once I’m out oft my mother’s sight I start to run. I’m running to the deck when someone stops me by grabbing me gently, but firmly on the shoulder. Oh no, I think, is it mom or one of the workers? When I turn around I sigh with relief  it’s not my mom or a worker. It’s just another passenger. But what could they want? And why did they stop me? “Ummm, hello. Who are you? And why did you stop me?” I asked, he answered all the questions even though he didn’t have to. ”My name is Maxon, I stopped you because I was wondering why you were running so fast. Where are you going?” Maxon looked friendly and he looked about my age. (Which if you were wondering I am 15.) So I said, “I will tell you in a minute, but first you need to answer one more question.” I saw a smile form on his face, then he said ”need?!” in a joking tone. “O.K., I will answer it,” I smiled too. So, he looks nice and is nice. “How old are you?” I ask, at first he dosn’t answer, but he keeps the smile on his face, then he says, ”I’m 16.” and just because it’s only fair, and because I want him to know, I say ”I’m 15” the smile on his face gets even wider. I say, ”anyways I’m going to explore the Titanic. Do you want to come?” This time he didn’t hesitate he answered right away.” I would love to. Just be careful, I don’t want you to get in trouble.” Yay, I made a new friend! ”Ok,” I say. So we explore the top deck first (at least what I think is the top deck) I notice something. “Hey do you know why there are only 16 lifeboats?” I ask Maxon. He gets the same look of concern on his face that I have on mine. “Hmmm, I don’t know we shouldn’t need to worry about it though,” he says. I nod my head but neither on my face nor his does the look of concern go away. Later that night I find out he’s also a first class passenger and he tells me the room number too. I wrote it in my diary it’s 1547 mine is 1465. I go ask if he wants to eat dinner with us he says yes so we wait for him in the 1st class diner. When he comes I introduce him to my family. “Mom,” I say, “this is Maxon, the person I told you about.” Maxon bows and says “It’s a pleasure to finally meet you.” My mom smiled, “has Zoey talked about me?!” I think I see Maxon’s smile grow a little wider, but I can’t tell then he says, “Oh, yes all the time.” I say with a smile “well now that you’ve gotten to know each other, let’s eat some supper!” Later that night, I’m waiting in bed for my brother and Mom to go to sleep. Ten minutes later I check. Yes I think they’re both asleep! I sneak out the door Maxon said he would wait for me because he wanted to show me something. I look around then I see him, I don’t know if he sees me so I whisper “Maxon over here.” He looks my way then waves me over, I go over to him and he says “follow me.” I nod and follow. He stops at what looks like a big strong door. “Where are we?” I ask, he doesn’t answer all he says is “wait here” then he enters the room and closes the door. I listen to what they are saying. “Hi, you know that girl I told you about,” Maxon says. “Yes, ooh is she here? Is she? I can’t wait to see her!” the other person says. Then I step away from the door because I hear footsteps coming toward the door. I can’t tell if they are out here with me or behind that door, so I hide behind the plant that’s nearby. Then the door opens and Maxon steps out. I must have hidden really well because he doesn’t see me till I step out, “Sorry,” I say. He shuts the door. Why aren’t we going in? I wonder. “Why did you hide?” he asks. “You’re not scared of me are you?” I wonder why he asks that. Of course I’m not scared of him why would I be? “No I’m not scared of you, why would I be?” I ask, he still looks confused then he shrugs his shoulders, opens the door, and we walk in. The other person was a man and when he sees us he looks sooo happy.

Chapter 3

Mr. Andrews
“Ummm, hi sir,” I say nervously. “There is no need to worry, Zoey,” Maxon whispers in my ear. To defend myself I whisper,  “I’m not worried, what are you talking about?” He answers, “I can tell by how you talk and how you stand.” I look down. He’s right, I do look tense. “Oh,” I say. I could tell the other man knew we were talking, but not what we were saying. The other man clears his throat and says, “The name’s Thomas Andrews, but you can call me Mr. Andrews. That’s what everyone else calls me. Anyways, your friend there brought you here to tell you about the boat. Why don’t you take a seat over there.” He points to two comfy looking chairs in the corner. “ First, let me show you the blueprints.” He goes into another room and comes back with a blue piece of paper. “These are the blueprints,” he says. “I am the person who built the boat, with help.” “Wow, really, it’s a pleasure to meet you,” I say. He smiles at me, “as it is to meet you, miss.” I smile back.

Chapter 4

The Sinking

Later that night I’m sitting on a bench on on the deck with Maxon when we hear a big crash come from the front of the boat. “What was that?” I wonder out loud. “I don’t know, we should go check it out” said Maxon. As we go to the front of the boat we hear loud shrieks of horror and and people yelling for other people! “What happened?” I cry when I see my little brother and Mom. “I don’t know we were walking to find a bench when the boat crashed into an iceberg.” Mom said. Logan was crying, he must be scared.  I came down to his level and gave him a reassuring hug as I process what my mom just said. Wait did she say ICEBERG! Oh, no! “Mom did you say, it hit an iceberg?!” She nodded in response. “ Oh, no,” I mutter under my breath. Just then a guy (who I’m guessing works on the Titanic) came over and said, “Miss, I need to take you and your two children over to a lifeboat. The Titanic is sinking!” Sinking! Wait, but what about Maxon?! Before he can grab my arm I say,” what about Maxon?!”  “Women and children only.” The man says, “Sorry, now go.” I look at Maxon and he nods. So I follow my mother over to a lifeboat. As we get lowered into the water, I see Maxon watching sadly. Then I notice something about him. Could he be… crying? As we start to row away from the boat a wave comes and hits the boat hard in the side. So hard I fall out. I start gasping the water is so cold. No one realizes I fell out till I start yelling (and gasping) for help. I must have been pretty loud because I see Maxon running to the edge of the boat and diving into the water. Then the world goes black.

Chapter 5

Relief
  I wake up to the sound of my name. “Zoey can you hear me?” someone says. I think it’s Maxon. My eyes flutter open. We are on a boat, I think. “W-Where are we?” I ask. Maxon says we are, as I thought, on a boat. We are on our way to America. Just then he hugs me. “I was so worried,” he said. “I heard you scream, I jumped in then I saw you go under the waves and you didn’t come back up.” When I thought he was done he finished the sentence with, “I thought you were dead.” he says sadly. I look at his face and he said, “Well I’m not, so that’s good, right?” He smiles back. “Right.” He lets go of me and walks away. Before he leaves he says, “I will be right back.”

Chapter 6

Surprises

  Maxon comes back 5 minutes later with a wrapped gift in his hands. He looks so excited. He handed it to me and said, “Don’t open it yet!” He was super excited about it. So I smiled and said, “O.K!” Then he took off again and came back with my mother and brother. Both of them had a present for me too! I was so confused. Why so many presents? “Why are there so many presents?” Maxon was the one who answered. “ Because silly, it’s your birthday, remember!?” Oh, ya now I remember. “Thank you,” I tell them. “Open mine first,” Logan says. “O.K.” I say.  I open his, “Thank you,” I say. It’s a picture of him and me on a beach from last year. “It’s so you will never forget me!” I smile. “I’ll open Mom’s next.” She hands it to me and I open it.  I gasp, it is a very beautiful necklace. “Thank you, Mom.” She smiles. Then I open Maxon’s. “Oh Maxon, it’s beautiful!” it’s a very beautiful dress.

Chapter 7

Goodbyes

  We finally docked in America. It’s so beautiful, but yet so sad. It’s sad because I know what this means. It means I have to goodbye to Maxon. Then I have an idea so we can stay in touch. I whisper my idea to Mom, she says “good idea sweetie!” So I call after Maxon, “Maxon wait,” he turns around, I run to him and wrap my arms around him. At first he’s surprised, then he hugs me back. “ Maxon, before we part, let’s exchange phone-numbers. That way we can keep in touch.” He smiles, “that’s a great idea. Why didn’t I think of that?” We trade phone numbers, say goodbye and go on our separate ways.

Chapter 8

5 years later

It’s been 5 years since the Titanic sank and since I met Maxon. Today is the happiest day of my life because I am getting married. I am so happy. When Maxon proposed to me, I couldn’t believe it was real. So of course I said yes. How could I say no? My Mom is super happy for me. My Dad would be too, if he were still here that is. My brother is now 10. He doesn’t want me to leave but, knows it must happen. He is super happy for me though. My dress is super itchy but it’s worth wearing.

I can’t wait to get home and get out of this dress. When we get home we are having our party at our house, because Maxon’s family is rich and they gave us some money to buy us a house. I did not marry him for the money, I married him for who he is.

Chapter 9

Party

I could not wait for my Mom, my brother, Maxon’s family, our friends, and other relatives, to arrive. I was just finishing getting all the food and toys out, (for the kids). When the bell rang. ”I’ll get it.” called Maxon. He opened the door.  I heard a familiar laugh. “Logan!” I called. He rushed into the kitchen and said, “I wanted to get you a present but mom said, “they don’t want a present, sweetie” was she telling the truth? I giggled, then said, “yes, she was telling the truth.” and she was. Later, once all the guests arrived and had something to eat, Maxon and I went to get the cake. Wow, was it heavy! Definitely it was yummy!

Chapter 10

The End
I felt bad for all the people who died on the Titanic. Even though all those people died I am glad that I was not one of them. I would have been one them though, if it weren’t for Maxon. He saved my life, and I am extremely grateful for that. But sadly every story, (even ones with a happy ending) must eventually come to an end. I am very happy with how mine ended. “Hey, Zoey,” called Maxon. “Come help me with the dogs.” Oh no, not again. Our dogs are constantly escaping, they are hard to catch. Luckily they are friendly. Once we finally catch them, we put them back in their cages. “Finally!” Maxon and I say at the same time. We both start laughing. Well, that is another happy ending to a chapter in my book. I can’t wait for life to open up a whole new story. But I’m glad cause this isn’t the end, but the beginning.

Titanic Fast Facts
Titanic only had 16 lifeboats. There were 9 dogs on the Titanic, only 3 survived with their owners. It was

“un-sinkable.” Titanic sank in 1912. It had EVERYTHING,(except enough lifeboats). It had escape ladders. It was the largest moving object ever built. It weighed 50,000 tons. There were a total of 2,229 people, only a 3rd of them survived. All the passengers came from 28 different countries. Once the Titanic sank laws were made that each boat had to have enough lifeboats for each passenger.
