The environment and the air conditioner

It’s August. 36° outside. The first thing that people normally do is turning on the air conditioner. “It doesn’t pollute, and if it does, it’s going to be a minimal damage. That’s not true!

Air conditioners actually create a lot of pollution: just to make it work we need to use a lot of electricity, that get produced by power plants. Of course to produce that electricity those centrals create a lot of pollution.

Also if your air conditioner was not bought recently it does also produce pollution by itself: when old air conditiones get turned on they release in the air some really small particles that are harmless for the people, but are really dangerous for the environment. They are called cfc (Chlorofluorocarbons) and they are the cause of Ozone’s Hole. Beacuse of this hole a lot of UV sunrays can pass the Ozone and get directly to us. These rays are really dangerous for human and increases the number of people with skin cancer and genetic and immune sistem damage.

This is why i think we should start using more fans.

Fans of course still uses Electricity, but they use it in really really smaller quantities. They are environmental better than air conditioners.

Of course using fans doesn’t feel like using air conditioners, and that’s why we can use air conditioners, but only when it’s really necessary.

If the day isn’t too hot we should prefere using fans and save the air conditioner for a hotter day. All this to prevent the Ozone Hole to be recreated and to stop the rising tempratures.

Another solution, that is the one that I personally use, could be using photovoltaic panels: these panels convert solar energy into electricity, without emitting any type of pollution.

They can easily be put in your houses roof and can create continuously energy when the sun is up. Of course they doesn’t work during the night.

The only problem is the cost. They are quite expensive, and not everybody can support such a cost. But that cost gets progressively reduced because of all the bill that you can be able not to pay.
Because obviously they produce clean electricity for all the house, so every electrical object will use its clean energy that comes from the panels.
